Volume 16
Janet & Graham Scott
December 2012
A very merry Christmas & prosperous 2013 to all our Friends
Graham & Judy
Well good intentions are at work here as we have started to write our usual resume of the year at the start of November to allow careful thought over the content and hopefully get our Newsletter published in a timely manner. As is the custom Rosedale News will be on the web at
www.gwsjms.me.uk/xmas12.htm. As usual all our good intentions have not been fulfilled. Here we are at the end of November and still trying to finish!

Holidays

We didn't go away last spring so we decided to try cruising. July saw us depart Harwich on MV Discovery for a voyage to Norway, Iceland and the Faroe Islands..

We were away during what proved to be the worst 2 weeks of the English summer but the jet stream was kind to us, we had a balmy voyage to Bergen while Iceland was suffering a drought! We enjoyed looking round Bergen and the trip on the Flamm railway. On the approach to Iceland the ship's captain kept warning us of the danger of heavy weather to the north of Iceland in arctic waters. In the event all was calm, with only one wet day and in general the weather was quite warm. Until we left Reyjavik that is. On the last afternoon the wind started to blow and once at sea we experieced a force 9 gale for 2 full days. That meant that we missed calling in at the Faroe Isalnds but we were extremely proud of being able to eat five course dinners without feeling ill. Some of the crewe were quite green though. We can definitely recommend Voyages of Discovery, excellent accomodation, lovely crew, wall to wall food of an excellent standard and also very good talks. We thoroughly enjoyed both Iceland and Norway. The scenery was spectacular, everywhere clean and tidy and although it would be expensive to live there they have a lot going for them.

Debbie & Chris

Mikie is now in his second year at school and seems to mostly enjoy it. Chris & I took him to the Top Gear Show at the Birmingham NEC recently. Not quite sure what he made of Jezza Clarkson though.
Mikie Ffestiniog Railway
Debora is back at Homebase having just opened a new store. TalkTalk recently announced that they are closing the Milton Keynes site. Chris has the possibility of a job at their HQ is Irlam but is undecided whether or not to accept.
Ben 250712
Ben discovered crawling a few months ago but even after many attempts he has not taken his first steps. We think he is saving that for Christmas.

Work & Hobbies

Graham continues with his full program of interests. He is Vice Chairman of the County High School, Leftwich which has recently become a self governing Academy hence more work for the Governors but it is all very rewarding.

He has been Chairman of the Province of Cheshire Freemasons IT working party now for about a year trying to get everything onto the online world. The new web site linked above is the latest creation.

After serving as President last year he is back to being secretary of Weaver Probus Club. Janet says it is a sort of male WI but really is an acronym for Poor Retired Old Buggers Unfit for Sex!!

Megan Dog

Has been with us over a year now. They said she was about three years old when we collected her from the dogs home but we believe she was only about one as evidenced by her puppyish behaviour. She is still very energetic but is starting to learn about good behaviour - well sometimes.

Megan also seemed to enjoy her sojourn in kennels while we were away sailing.

Katherine & Santi

Katherine is still bringing babies into the world at the Princess Royal Hospital in Glasgow.

Santi had a three week contract job recently helping with the development of a new web site for Avios (owners of BA & Iberia). He found a major flaw after a few days which would have allowed customers to book car hire at no charge.

Ivan & Oscar

Oscar is now a school boy along with his brother who is in his third year. Both of them are doing well.

The family had a a lovely holiday in Rhodes this summer. The weather was hot and dry there in total contrast to our summer and the autumn as well, at least so far.

Grandsons

There are no more additions to the family this year but we are pleased to report that all four are doing well. Ivan is now in his third year at school up in Scotland and enjoying it. His brother Oscar started school in August while cousin Mikie started his second year in September. We must not forget our young smiler, Ben who is just such a jolly chap.

Christmas 2012 will be a quiet again as the family are not descending on us until 27th December. We are probably going round to some old friends on Christmas Day for the festive meal and no doubt the odd glass of plonk.

We are again taking the grandchildren to the local pantomime. This year it's "Sleeping Beauty" Last year they had a whale of a time watching "Jack and the Beanstalk" so we hope this year's offering will be as good. It also gets us out of the washing up as we leave their parents to do that! (or at least to load the dishwasher)

As ever please send us your email address, we can be reached at gws@astondb9.plus.com

All the best to you all for the Christmas season and the New Year.
