Volume 13 | Janet & Graham Scott |
December 2009 |
A very merry & happy Christmas to all our
We have been putting off the job of writing the news from the Scott household for too long. The job must now be tackled if we are to be in time for Christmas.
We have already had one annual newsletter from Chris Walker in Canada. She is spending January & February back in Europe but in sunnier climes than GB ie Portugal As is now usual our Christmas news will be on the web at www.gwsjms.me.uk/xmas09.htm. |
Work & Hobbies We continue doing occasional exam invigilation work for our local schools. Graham often gets approached by friends to help sorting out broken computers. They seem to think he is quite good but it is probably that in the Kingdom of the blind, the one eyed man is King as the saying goes. Graham was heavily involved earlier in the year in the recruitment of a new Head Teacher and Deputy Head for Moulton School. The previous incumbent had retired after 28 years in the job and Graham was on his interview panel having been on the governing body for over 30 years. Accordingly he decided to give up the Chair of Governors in November and is considering retiring completely from Moulton School in the New Year.He will continue his involvement with the local secondary school though. As well as his school work Graham acts as secretary for his masonic lodge and for the Weaver Probus Club. He has been asked to become Vice President of the Club in 2010 which will lead to him being President in 20011 for one year. He is also the Treasurer of Moulton Drama Group H does not act, preferring backstage activities. Janet has just relinquished the secretaries job for the local Arts Council which is being reorganised following our local government reorganisation last April. The ancient County of Cheshire has been split into two - Cheshire West and Chester (known as CWAC) and Cheshire East. We are in the west bit. just continues She continues as secretary of the Condate Singers who have continued to entertain audiences in Mid Cheshire over the past year.

Family get together The weekend of Chris's birthday, late October, saw all the family get together. It was lovely to see all the boys playing together as Mikie was too young last year to join in any of the games. They all love cars and Thomas the Tank Engine. Granddad took them for numerous walks with the dogs and found secret paths and rabbit holes in the fields near our house. Another walk by the river revealed herons, helicopters, trains and big, big diggers at the salt mine. The mine, about 15 minutes walk from our house, produces the majority of the salt that goes on our roads in winter.

Debbie & Chris
Debs still works part time in the marketing department of Homebase, one of the big do-it-yourself chains. Periodically they have staff sales and if Debs feels like getting up at 6.00am on a Saturday morning there are many bargains to be had. A £70 angle grinder was snapped up for £8 and lots of children's toys for similarly low prices. Chris remains with Tiscali which has now been taken over by Carphone Warehouse/Talk Talk. There have been some redundancies but hopefully his job is secure. The company is now the second largest Internet Service provider in the UK.

Holidays | |
In February we flew away from the good and cold of the Uk to the island of La Palma. This is the first time we have been to the Canaries. We had a super resort style hotel at the southern tip of the island. It was a bit cutoff if you wanted to go out of the grounds for a stroll because it was at the bottom of the cliffs, about 1200ft below the village, and was surrounded by banana plantations (staple crop over there). We hired a car quite cheaply for four days so we were able to travel the length and breadth of the island including taking in the peaks at over 10,000 feet with snow and observatories. |
Later in the year we rented a villa in L'Ametlla de Mar which is on the coast, about half an hour's drive south of Tarragona, Spain. We flew to Barcelona where we hired a car for the 100 mile journey down the coast. It was during a refreshment stop that Graham noticed he was wearing odd shoes. Apparently he had put them on in the bedroom at home with the light off (at 5am). As he had no other footwear apart from sandals he had an embarrassing time whenever he needed shoes. Katherine, Santi and the grandchildren had already arrived when we got to the villa. They had spent a few days with Santi's parents in Esplugues, near Barcelona. |
All the best to you all for the Christmas season and the New Year. All our love, Janet & Graham |
